Ensuring C-V2X Product Compliance

The use of cellular vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X) communications is fundamental to the growth and adoption of next-generation automotive systems. Direct wireless communication between vehicles – and between vehicles, cyclists, pedestrians and infrastructure – will lead to safer and more efficient intelligent transportation systems. Certification of all these elements to global standards is essential to ensure the peace of mind of manufacturers and users alike.

Developed in conjunction with the 5G Automotive Association (5GAA), GCF’s cellular vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X) certification programme has been created to meet the needs of the automotive industry as it manages the growth of connected vehicles and infrastructure. The programme initially enables companies and organisations to certify their C-V2X capable products to C-V2X PC5 Mode 4 short range functionality in Band 47 and will be extended to support LTE and 5G based V2X Uu (V2N) long range functionality as well as evolving vehicle-to-pedestrian (V2P) and vehicle-to-device (V2D) services. PC5 Mode 4, standardised by 3GPP, allows for direct communications between vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) equipment without the need to connect to the cellular network.

Typical products benefitting from the programme include, but are not limited to, onboard units (OBU) and roadside units (RSU). All product testing must be performed by a GCF Registered Test Organisation (RTO).

The GCF C-V2X certification programme is available to GCF members and also to non-GCF members (the latter on a pay-per-certification basis).

Login is required to gain full access to the C-V2X portal. GCF members may login with their existing GCF website username and password here. Non-members of GCF can apply for a C-V2X portal user account or access by completing the registration request here.

The separate Connected Vehicle Work Stream portal for meetings and document sharing can be accessed at CV-WS
